Kurdistan Region of Iraq
History, the present and a zest for life
The Kurdistan Region has undergone profound political, economic and social change in recent decades.
Despite conflicts in neighbouring areas, people across the region repeatedly demonstrate courage, strength and a zest for life. Modern cities, historic sites and sweeping mountain landscapes create a richly varied picture.
During the trip, we explore history, politics, culture, religion and society. In Erbil, we experience a growing metropolis whose citadel looks back on thousands of years of history. Other stops take us to universities, religious sites, places of remembrance and the Kurdish mountains.
Planned meetings include politicians, journalists, university representatives, contemporary witnesses and non-governmental organisations. These encounters create a nuanced understanding of the region – personal, open and close to everyday life.
